As we enter the fall season, it’s important to maintain a spirit of gratitude and thankfulness. For many, this season can be very difficult—shorter days, fallen leaves, and changing temperatures. This is certainly the case for my family and I. In the midst of birthday celebrations, are also times of grief and loss. (If you are in a similar boat, hugs to you.) See, this change of season has often marked an internal one for me too; one that isn't so welcoming. One day last week, I decided to do something I had never done before--decorate for the fall. Yup! This is novel for us as we traditionally decorate for Christmas only. It was totally a decision that countered the way I felt inside. The strange thing was that this time I wasn’t decorating for my family, I decorated for me! I wanted to create a warm and inviting atmosphere for myself so that I could smile when I entered the room; I wanted my own eyes to twinkle with excitement about the new change in season. Sure, my family will enjoy the décor too but the best part was the realization that I was beginning to pay attention to my own yearning to create and beautify my own space. So I set out on a mission! And when I added the lights...what a delightful moment it was! While this is something simple, it brought me great joy and peace in that moment. Do you enjoy the fall? How are you handling the change of season? I invite you to find a way to make space for your own self and to create something beautiful. You are worth it! Here are a few pictures of how I decorated.
